I signed it and am not ashamed to admit it. I didn't expect it to get this out of hand, to be quite honest I didn't expect it to get passed onto anyone. Just thought it was an internet thing. If I'd have known there would be this much of a palava about the whole thing I wouldn't have signed. But I am glad that he won't be coming as I wouldn't want his type at this club. It's just fortunate for Sullivan that he has this petition to blame rather than the fact that Bowyer didn't want to take a pay cut to come to a midlands club. |

alfboy - what exactly is ' his type' ????? Not an energetic midfield dyanmo with bags of talent and a great engine ??? Come on, what do you call his type? And you need facts to back up what you are gonna say. |

And all those who booed Gronkjaer while playing in the blue shirt so that he was driven out of the club. Few rows behind where I sit would be empty, if that were the case. Or isn't that intefering with the manager picking the players? |

Those who signed the petition obviously think they all know better than Bruce/Gold/Sullivan and this is the part which angers me. Its one thing disscussing potential transfers on a message board but to start drastically influencing the decision to sign players is very wrong. Any decent blues fans could see what our board has done for us so far and put their trust in them regardless of what they think about a signing. |

Not at all! Those who signed it are just giving their opinion and that is that they dont like Lee Bowyer as a player. |

I don't think I know better than anyone. I put my views forward. If bowyer thinks he is going to find a club where everyone loves him he might as well just quit football now. Why would he care what 150 people think? it's all an excuse to not take a wage cut |

Parker's rejected us, Bowyer's rejected us. When you see Basinas play for Birmingham, you won't care about politics. They couldn't get a big name player like Parker. They've got to buy players where they can, to get on the next level. Bowyer > Basinas. |

What an extremely naive point of view. Have you ever thought that the people who signed that petition did so becasue it was about more than just football ? The role of the modern day footballer and importance of which football and the football club have in todays society is immense. As a season ticket holder and father who brings his young son to matches I don't want my son aspiring / looking up to someone like bowyer, regardless of how good or bad his potential signing may prove to be / have been. Edit ** This is in response to DANY's post if there was any confusion |

I signed it as well, and still feel my reasons were justified. Whilst I admit Bowyer is an excelent player and would have supported him had the Blues signed him due to him wearing a Blues shirt, I would prefer Blues to source an alternative to him. Unlike many of the excitable posters who jumped on the bandwagon of abusing people for having an opinion, I actually spent approximately two hours web searching about LB history including his court case and the Judges comments after the case, the incident with the Asian guy in McDonalds, the varous newspaper reports, including one calling LB everyname under the sun on thieir front page and daring him to sue them for libel, the incredibly high fine he received for not getting a custodial sentence, and his most recent dust up with Kieron Dyer his own team mate. The decision I came to was whilst Bowyer would bring skill to Blues and indeed be a more than adequate replace ment for "the blond one" I did not like what I had read about his character, I also imo decided that he could cause unrest in the dressing room, which could have a detremental effect on the team I love, and have followed for thirty years, this could have meant key players at Blues moving on, which I did not want to see. To this end I signed the petition, although at the time of signing I did not realise it was going to be used to create a media circus or indeed that it was going to be floated on the vile site, I think this is quite possibly the case with a good many fans who included their name on the petition. Fans are entitled to their opinion, full stop and no one has the right to assume anything else, just because you do not agree with that person does not give you the right to become abusive to them. I have seen four types of people who have supported the Bowyer signing on here: 1st Poster: Is the Ra Ra boys, people who get swept along with a situation and the excitement it generates. 2nd Poster: The person who agrees because he or she is to afraid to stand up for their own convictions, these are often the same people who run with bullies at school, not really agreeing with what they said but know being in the gang stops them getting a thumping. 3rd Poster: The people who have stated they admire LB for not just his footbaling ability, which I also think is excellent but also for what he has been associated with in these discussions due to his actions over the previous years (very worrying) 4th Poster: Finally the fan that genuinely believes Bowyer can be changed by Bruce and his skills harnessed to improve Birmingham City and push them towards Europe. I admire these poeples optimism I read a number of Newcastle fans pre LB signing for the barcodes thinking Bobby Robson could do a similar thing! At te end of the day we shall never know unless Bowyer signs, I don't think he will due to wages, and his new house in Kent. Imo I do not think it will have anything to do with this petition. I will however continue to stand by what I believe is best for BCFC and not back away from my opinion due to pressure from people/fans who's idea of discussion is to name call and generally become abusive KRO |

Wrong. Point of football is winning games. That's why they want to sign Bowyer. If you want your son to get a role model, make him read about MLK, Bob Geldof etc. |

In an ideal world that would be the case. Unfortunatly that too is a very naive attitude to the way in which football should be percieved. Nowaday is is about so much more and whether they like it or not, footballers are the modern day role-models and have more obligations than just winning games or performing well on the pitch. This isnt really the place to debate the ethics of football though. I signed the petition. This whole situation has been blown well out of hand and cause unnecessary divides. I also think DS's comments yesterday were unwise and have stoked up the flames. |

It's not 'about much more'. Get other idols, footballers never did anything for the world. Still, I KNOW if we were in Division 3 in relegation places with the most charitable people in Birmingham, you'd want Lee Bowyer so they could win. |

The world is full of idiots so why should we at BCFC not have a small amount amoungst our fan base. Mr Sullivan and Lee Bowyer should do as we all do, ignore them. |

Don't you think that we should let Steve Bruce decide who he buys, he is the Manager after all! We would criticise the Board if they didn't let Steve buy who he wants so why should the fans be any different. How can we judge a Manager if we don't let him make his own judgements! Keep on like this and we will lose Steve Bruce. Is that what everyone wants? So Bowyer has got a dodgy past, so what! What about Jermaine Pennant and what he did. Is anyone criticising him? Anyone interested in signing a counter petition asking for Bowyer to be signed? |

I signed the petition and will be happy if Bowyer does not sign for Blues. To me, person's character is just as important as his football skills and from his description of Forsell I think Steve Bryce agrees. Bowyer fails any test of character and is a poor role model to the many young blues fans. Savage was a combative player but he had a charm about him that Bowyer lacks. There is a meaness about Bowyer that I have never liked. We are better off without him and I think the team dressing room is better off without him. I have supported the Blues for 50 years and rarely have I been so encouraged by the progress made at the club. Steve Bruce and his team will find another player of Bowyers skills. |
